Most of my ideas for installations begin with filling large spaces and then eventually bringing it down to a fraction of the original size to accommodate the available space. The Freight Gallery in the historic Off The Beaten Track Warehouse building in Northeast, Washington DC, offers a wonderful space where it possible to realize a miniature version of the original concept. It was a great experience to exhibit the Maya- Transitory Experiences installation in this space where it was possible to play with light creating distorted reflections and overlapping shadows of columns of hole-punched paper, all at the same time. The darkened hallway and the geometry of the elevator worked beautifully with the installation.
A huge thanks to Julia Bloom for this opportunity and for sharing my work with others. I would like to thank Off The Beaten Track Warehouse and everyone attended the show yesterday. Thank you!
